Provo, Ut -West Virginia was 32.3% of the field, while the 25th Byu Cougars (21-8, 12-6) broke fire in the second half and 60.6% shot the mountain climbers (17-12, 8-10) to reach 77-56 on Saturday evening.
West Virginia and Byu scored on their first possessions of the game, then a combined 0-9 went out of the field before Richie Saunders rode the job for the lay-in to start an 8-2 run with Fousseyni Traore who worked the paint to give the Cougars a 10-4 lead on the 13:17 Mark.
Byu gave a 13-8 lead until second-year attacker Amani Hansberry immediately hit three, second-year Sencire Harris was buried De Steel and De Emmer, and senior guard Javon Small as part of a 9-0 run for 17-13 advantage with 4:51 left in half.
