San Antonio -On Saturday there were several residents of San Antonio on the south side outside the Cortez library, waiting for a pop-up clinic that was intended to increase measles vaccination rates in the community.
Participants Maria Elena and Lillianna Rodriguez said they think it was a good choice to get the vaccination.
“We thought, let’s be a little early, let’s be a bit proactive,” they said.

The Rodriguez family said they are not used to seeing this kind of pop-up vaccine clinics on the south side, but they want to ensure that they can stay safe for friends and family.
Areas such as the south side and the west side are often uninsured and under -insured, according to officials of the metropolitan health district of the city.
Maria Elena said it is nice to have a pop-up so close to home.
“The south side is unfortunately omitted on some things, and as you can see, it is very widely needed on our side of the city … I have the feeling that we are taking it seriously here in Bexar County and San Antonio. This is something we can’t ignore, “she said.

Sarah Stain and her 6-year-old daughter, Lilah, said they came to the pop-up clinic to be aware of their MMR vaccines for their family members.
“I have heard about it everything, and my father, he is a senior, so we have to make sure we can also protect him, “said Stain.”[Lilah] Know that it is for her health and to make her brave and strong. She knows that it also helps everyone around her. ‘
Health officials have increased the consciousness of the virus after a resident of Gaines County, who later tested positive measles, visited San Antonio and surrounding areas during the Valentine’s Day weekend.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported confirmed cases from Friday. On Saturday, Austin Public Health reported that a baby in Travis County had tested positively for measles, but said that the case is not related to the outbreak of West Texas.
A non -vaccinated child died on Tuesday in Lubbock and so far 20 people have been admitted to the hospital, according to DSHS.
In a briefing from the Community Health Committee on Friday, Anita Kurian, the assistant director of Metro Health, repeated that Bexar County has not reported measles cases.
