Lionel Messi takes an Intermiami contract decision in the middle of Barcelona Return Rumors – FC Barcelona

Lionel Messi reportedly made his decision about his future in the midst of speculation that he wants to return to Barcelona.

Messi, who scored a record 672 goals in 778 games for the club, ended his shimmering enchantment with the Blaugrana in 2021 after financial issues and La Liga restrictions made it difficult to sign him on a new deal.

He therefore became a free agent and announced his departure in an emotional press conference, before signing for Paris Saint-Germain and winning two Ligue One titles.

The eight-time balloon d’Or winner made a game-changing move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the MLS in 2023 and brought the competition to new heights on and next to the field.

The 37-year-old has scored 36 goals in 42 games for the herons and started them on the Leagues Cup and MLS Supporters’ Shield.

The lucrative deal of Messi runs until December 31, 2025, but rumors about him who are back to Barcelona have been widespread.

Journalist Alex Candal, the first person reporting about his decision to move over the pond, claimed that Messi is desperate to sign up for Barcelona and play in the renewed well-camp when it is completed.

It was reported that Messi stated: “I can’t stop without first playing in the new Camp Nou.”

Messi’s former biographer Guillem Balague, however, has responded to the reports and emphasizes that Messi returns to Barca is more or less “impossible”, while Joan Laporta is the President of the club.

With a number of problems between Messi and Laporta, it is said that Messi does not intend to a second stint and it is more likely to stay in Miami.

“A few things about this story,” wrote Balague on X.

“Messi contract ends at the end of the season. Messi is not going to return to Barcelona. I would say it is impossible while Laporta is in charge. Inter Miami will probably convince him to stay in the club. ‘

Flanked by former Barcelona colleagues in manager Javier Mascherano and teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, will lead Messi Inter to the all-new 32-teams Club World Cup in the United States in the summer.

The club wants Messi in their ranks by the time that 2026 walks around and the club moves to Miami Freedom Park, a development of 131 hectares with a new stadium of 25,000 capacity, as well as an entertainment district, sports facilities and a hotel.
