Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – Your birthday is one time of the year in which it is okay to be selfish. It’s all about you, and children already cherish themselves in those blessing as long as we have had candles.
But for the 9-year-old Grant Mullen from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, his last birthday party made a different tone.
Last year, Grant’s father Mark Volunteer Work started at SNR, a recreation center for people with special needs. Not long after he started, he got Grant to also do volunteer work.
“It is so important to involve your children at a young age,” Mark told CBS News. “It really makes a huge difference.”
And when Mark Grant asked what he wanted for his birthday last September, he was pleasantly surprised by the answer.
‘We asked him:’ What would you like to do for your birthday? Who do you want to invite? What do you want? “It just couldn’t have been better than what he said,” said Mark. “The most perfect answer ever.”
Grant’s wish was to invite everyone at SNR for his birthday party.
“Because they are not invited to birthdays,” Grant explained. “Sometimes people don’t get that much love. It’s sad.”
The SNR group came again last week with the Mullen family. The parents told CBS News that many of their children are indeed not invited to many birthday parties. But while they mixed, it became clear that Grant was not only nice when he broadcast those invitations. He really wanted them here.
“They are nicer, friendlier,” said Grant. “And they don’t always get angry.”
That feeling was mutual.
“He is my best friend,” said Gift Johnson from Grant.
Sam Mcenany added: “I just love him. He is my brother.”
And with such friends who need presents.
