A former Pokemon world champion says that the new competitive title of the series, Pokemon Champions, could have a huge impact on the competition circuit.
Yesterday, during Pokemon Presents 2025, Nintendo and Game Freak had a game announcement to join his thick Pokemon Legends: Sat Reveal. Pokemon Champions is a competitive-oriented strategy game that all the narrative and presumably quite a bit of the creatures of the creatures who are a supporting pillar of the series of the series for almost three decades, a supporting pillar of the series of the series. Pokemon Champions is all about competition, which is probably the reason why one of the best players in the world thinks it will probably make a big splash.
Wolfe Glick is a competitive Pokemon player, best known for winning the official World Championship 2016. He recently claimed the Pokemon Europe International Championships with the return of his notorious strategy, but he has been an important player in the competitive scene for many years. In a tweet after the unveiling of Pokemon champions, he suggested that the new game could change “competitive Pokemon in ways that I can’t even understand.”

Glick does not expand that hypothesis, but I have a few guesses why he thinks it’s so important. Firstly, players with eagle eyes will have noticed that both mega evolution and tenalization – fight gimmicks from two different generations that have never really shared a stage. Exactly how the couple links to each other in champions is still to be seen, but if they are allowed to communicate together, it can be a huge change.
The other important reason is that the links of Champions with Pokemon Go and earlier games can be an interesting solution for a controversial competitive rule. The Pokemon Company has determined Pokemon that were not trained by those they use in some recent tournaments, but the possibility to shift Mons back and forth between multiple games can mean that that specific problem is a thing of the past.
Somewhat individually I am interested in knowing if this is Nintendo that focuses on unofficial combat engines. The will of Pokemon Showdown – simplified, web -based games that strip fights to little more than Stat Checks – have long existed, but this feels like the Pokemon company that tries to find a way to find a way to work around them and offer something directly to his community for a little extra money. Anyway, with the amount of theorycrafting that happens in those online spaces, let alone the other factors that play, Glick is probably correct – Champions it seems at the point to tear up the competitive scene of Pokemon.
We are preparing for new entries in our list of the Best Pokemon -Games.
