Fable 4 can be set before Fable 2, based on new trailer

Summary

  • New fable gameplay images show off some locations from the game.

  • One of these areas is very similar to Bowstone, with Fairfax Castle in the background.

  • This suggests that the game will be set near Fable 2, perhaps between that and the first entry.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that the long-awaited Fable-Revival was delayed in 2026. To alleviate the blow, we received a look at a pre-alpha gameplay, who showed us how the long-awaited game is.

The images are not much, not even up to a minute, but it is enough for fans to dive into. And, namely, a certain recording that we see from a bustling city, may have given us a better idea of when and where the game is set, because it looks a lot like Fable 2 era Bowstone.

New Fable Trailer apparently confirms Bowstone

And with Fairfax Castle there, this can be set just before Fable 2

As noted by Reddit User Final-8437, this shot shows a castle that looks like the person we see in Bowstone in Fable 2. This clearly differs from Bowstone Manor of the first submission, on which Fairfax Castle was built between the two games, which suggests that fable game is closer to the continuation.

This also seems to be suspected that Fable would follow from Fable 3. The castle was completely renovated by the time of Fable 3, to the point that it is practically unrecognizable. So this must be the castle, either before the events of Fable 2, or immediately afterwards, and because there are only 50 years between 2 and 3, this game would be set earlier.

If this was post-fable 3, Albion would probably also look much more industrialized, because that game made quite a few changes to Albion.

Of course this all assumes that Fable will be in the same timeline as the previous games. Since this is not a numbered entry, there is a chance that this is more of a reboot, where the original trilogy is no longer Canon. However, it can be said that this would not be really necessary – the people of Albion have quickly forgotten their history, so you could comfortably set a game between the first two entries and it would not cause too many problems.

Anyway, it seems absolutely that Bowstone will be part of the new fabel, even if the series is restarted. It is still to be seen whether other locations from earlier games are included in the revival.
