A health care company established in California has officially taken over eight hospitals and several senior residential and care facilities in the Chicago area.
Prime Healthcare, which is already operating hospitals and other facilities in 14 states, announced the acquisition on Saturday.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the acquisition after an extensive assessment process.
After taking over the Chicago Area hospitals and other facilities, Prime Healthcare now has 51 hospitals, more than 360 outpatient locations and supervises nearly 57,000 employees and affiliated doctors.
The system praised its high rankings for healthcare and track record of turning financially struggling hospitals.
Prime Healthcare said that the employment offers made to ‘all employees of the Chicago facilities that have acquired’ essentially ‘all employees’

The system also said that the charity care programs and the connection of the hospitals with the Catholic Church will preserve.

Local officials praised the deal for Prime Healthcare to take over the hospitals and facilities in Chicago and in the suburbs.
“This transition marks an important moment in our community, but I want to make it clear: the quality of the care in which our residents trust will not be affected,” said Chicago ald. Daniel La Spata (1st neighborhood) in a statement. “Prime Healthcare is committed not only to maintain the services in the Saint Mary Hospital but to improve, so that our neighborhood continues to have access to medical care at the top.”
State rep. Eva-Dina Delgado (D-Chicago) also praised the acquisition.
